Own the data, not just the dashboard
Fathom is a well-built closed SaaS: you get clean reports, but the raw events live on their servers. analyticshq writes every event to a PostgreSQL database you control, so the underlying data is yours to query, export, or keep.
Country by default, city only if you ask
Fathom resolves every visitor to city level. analyticshq resolves country on your own server and stops there unless you turn on state and province, or city, yourself, per site. Even then it records a place name, never coordinates, and small towns are folded into Other so nobody can be singled out.
Open and self-hostable
Read the source, run it on your own infrastructure, and audit exactly what is collected. Fathom’s EU Isolation and per-event revenue are genuinely strong; analyticshq trades that polish for openness and full data ownership.
